“Critics found Man Ray’s photographs not quite worth all the furor that friends have raised. Most interesting were a series of black & grey abstractions known as rayograms which are made without a camera, simply by placing various objects on sensitized paper in a dark room, ex-posing them briefly to a single ray of light.” —http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,743589,00.html

Click on the title and add the address 6 Place Saint Germain des Prés to your Paris-must-see-list. Below is quoted from the website.

In the tense pre-war atmosphere, Saint Germain des Prés became the intellectual centre of Paris: Gide, Guehenno, Malraux and Chamson regularly ended up in discussions on the café terrace. Paul Eluard introduced Dora Maar to Picasso at “Les Deux Magots”. Françoise Giroud would have a coffee with Saint Exupery while Paul Morand would be deep in conversation with his friend Jean Giraudoux.

Every morning, Jean Paul Sartre with Simone de Beauvoir would take his seat at “Les Deux Magots” and write for hours, often without pause, but sometimes stopping to talk to Ernest Hemingway, another regular customer.
